USDesign USS software is proprietary software provided by Objective Data Storage

USS v3.4 is platform independent, Java^TM powered software. USS provides access to storage devices through the use of Internet and host-based access mechanisms. USS provides a consistent management and access methodology across all host platforms. USS is implemented using standards based software development tools such as JAVA^TM, HTML, and RPC.

USS v3.4 allows for cross platform data exchange and eliminates proprietary data limitations. USS saves data in universal disk format (UDF), a standard created by the Optical Storage Technology Association (OSTA) in an effort to provide users with data that can be shared across many operating systems. This enables the user to access data with any file system that reads UDF-thereby preventing the limiting, proprietary nature of many data storage management software applications.

USS v3.4 supports standalone and jukebox storage devices. USS v3.4 operates on all of today’s industry standard optical storage hardware. USS provides sophisticated management software and powerful API’s for jukebox (library) operation. With USS an API developed for one type of host platform will operate on other types of host platforms that support a Java^TM Interface.

USS is written in the Java^TM programming language which allows for one common code base that executes across a number of computer platforms.

Media Interchange Between Different Computer Systems

The use of the standard based file system, Universal Disk Format (UDF), allows media interchangeability.

The modular design allows for easy modification, be it user interface modules, new file system formats, or the addition of new functionality.

Proactive Device Maintenance

USS allows for the identification of "out-of-bounds" events to monitor with the ability to alert the system manager to potential device problems. User Defined Connection - USS allows the jukebox to be connected in a method that best meets the requirement of the application.
